Week 1 Playoff Football; Alter stops C-J again; Springfield, Trotwood advance;

Usually the football craze is a All-Time high, especially during the 1st week of the OHSAA playoffs;
And this season it didn't dissapoint, as more than 10 teams entered the first round of the playoffs:

Here's the Top HEADLINES, RESULTS OF
Week 1 of OHSAA Footaball Playoffs:

Alter Ends Chaminade's dream season with late FG
The Alter Knights, who, at 4-4, saw their season slipping away after a rough mid-season stretch; as they headed into Week 9 questions were abound:
Were the Knights overrated? Is a new coaching staff needed?  The end of a run possibly?

However, with a key road win and the final Regular season victory over C-J, the Knights would sneak into the playoffs and quiet all the critics.

And their reward? A rematch at Chaminade, no less.
In a defensive battle that had all the makings of a ESPN classic playoff game, Alter would kick a late FG to win a grueling 10-7 win at C-J High School.
Alter would and C-J would score first 2nd quarter on a Marquis Henry TD, in which Alter Kale Steneman would throw a TD in the 3rd to setup the dramatic ending.
After great defense by both teams, Alter was able to move into position late in the 4th quarter on a electric 27-yard run by Steneman run to set up the game- winning kick.
C-J had the ball on the 3 yard line but a late INT sealed the deal on a rollout pass, shocking the Eagles nation and send the Knights into a rage of happiness.

C-J was the top seed in the Region and in the Top 10 of the OHSAA State Rankings all season.

Alter, amidst all the talk of a new regime and other possibilities,  rose up from the depths of the dead and now will move on to Regional Semis.
C-J ends season at 9-3.
Player of the Game:
Kale Steneman, QB, Alter

Trotwood rolls over Wapakoneta in "Getback" Game as Anderson takes Over
Trotwood was able to revisit a place that cost them their chance for back to back Championships.
Not to mention there was some racial tension the last couple times the Rams have made their way to Wapakoneta,  with detailed accounts of the disrespect from the Wapak fans.

Trotwood would make sure there would be no dissapointment this season, as the Rams smacked Wapak 33-21 to move into Regional Semifinals for the 4th time in 5 seasons.

The game was tied at half (7-7) when All-State WR-DB Sammie Anderson took over.
Anderson sliced and diced Wapak with a Punt Return for a TD which gave the Rams a lead they'd never relinquish (14-7).
Then after a Rams defensive TD by Ravae Garrett, Anderson would score on a 39-yard TD from Cooper Stewart, and the game was essentially over late in the 3rd quarter (27-7).

The vaunted Rams defense shut down Wapak for most of the game, led by Ke'Shawn Huguely (10 tackles, sack) in which the unit forced 3 sacks and a defensive TD.
Player of the Game:
Sammie Anderson, Trotwood

Springfield shuts out Marysville as Tolliver, Stephens, Defense dominate

The Cats welcomed a tough and upset minded Marysville team, who has made a name in the OHSAA playoffs;
This year?
It's all about the Cats as they shut out Marysville 23-0 en route to a big win at home in Week 1 of the playoffs.

In a packed house, the Cats would strike early as Jeff Tolliver, one of the most explosive players in Ohio,  would run the opening kickoff 80 yards, setting the tone for the Cats, getting them a lead (7-0) they would never lose.

Tae'Sean Smoot, the dynamic Sophomore QB, would direct the Springfield offense to 2 TD drives, both caught by All-State WR Larry Stephens Jr. as Marysville would focus on not letting the powerful running game defeat them.

In the 2nd half?
The defense would turn out the lights on Marysville, holding the shutout in tact and exciting Former NFL DB and Current Head Coach Maurice Douglass.
DL Jokell Brown was rock solid and led the squad with 11 tackles and a sack. Te'Vion Gilbreth was the game-changer on defense on this night.
Gilbreth, a senior, a stout DE with speed, caused 2 fumbles on the night to go with 7 tackles, and was a problem for Marysville all night long.

Douglass has instilled focus in this team, and they have bought in, so much so, that the Wildcats seem like they are on a mission to get to State.
Player of the Game:
Jeff Tolliver, RB
Te'Vion Gilbreth, DL

Miami Valley League champs fall to Walnut Ridge

Xenia, who were the outright Champs in the MVL, lost their first ever OHSAA playoff Home Opener  28-7.
Chris Jones, a top DB in the Miami Valley League, would get a 60-yard Interception Return for a TD, and the Bucs fans were riled up.
But Columbus Walnut Ridge QB Howard Thronton would shake off the INT to run for 2 TDs and pass for another to lead Walnut Ridge to a road win.
Marshon Mankins had 16 tackles and recovered a big fumble to stand out for Walnut Ridge defensively.
Walnut Ridge would run off 28 straight before the game is over.
Ryan Foulbert (14), DE Devin Hall (14), and Isaiah Goodrum (10) led the D in tackles.
Player of the Game:
Howard Thornton, QB, Walnut Ridge

Springboro falls in 5 OTs
Springboro fought to the bitter end, but came up short in a 5 OT loss at home to Dublin Jerome  38-31.
In a game that Springboro dominated for the most part, the Panthers missed opportunities that costed them a trip to the Regional Semifinals.

After Willieon Yates scored on a 20-yard catch, his 2nd of the game from Landon Palmer, Jerome would score in the 5th OT to secure the deal on a Adam Booth TD, his 3rd of the game.

Despite averaging less than 2.5 yards per rush, and throwing for less than 60 yards total, Jerome was able to grind out a win.
Jake Kowalski and Nathan Swartz led the Panthers defensively while the offense ran for over 200 yards at a 5 ypg clip.
Springboro ends season at 9-2
Player of the Game:
Willieon Yates, RB-WR, Springboro
Adam Booth, RB, Jerome

Northmont Season ends at home as Whitmer Rallies

The Bolts would sqeak in the playoffs, only to be knocked out by Toldeo Whitmer 35-21.
Earlier in the game, Northmont would come out firing on all cylinders,  scoring twice and holding a early 14-0 lead.
Then Whitmer would gain their footing, and would score the next 35 of 42 points to seal the deal.
Star RB Jared Banks would run roughshod over the Bolts for 271 yards and 3 TDs, as Whitmer ran for over 330 yards total in the win.

Jazz Keys, one of the best names and top WRs in Southwest Ohio, went off with a Opening TD, a big kickoff return, and 2 TDs on the night.
But Whitmer shut down the Northmont running game and the Bolts were forced to pass all night long, forcing 2 INTs and keeping the Bolts offense off balance all night.

Phillip Quansah  (15 tackles, 2 sacks) was unstoppable as was Rod Smith (13 tackles) for  Northmont defensively.
Northmont ends season at 6-5.
Player of the Game:
Jared Banks, RB, Toledo Whitmer
Jazz Keys, WR, Northmont

Franklin rally comes up short

The Franklin Wildcats season was ended after a good season, as they lost in the 1st round to St Marys 14-10.  Franklin, who had won 7 straight heading into playoffs,
lost a close one as the SWBL Champs fell at home.
Franklin ends season at 9-2.

Troy eliminated by offensive explosion
Troy finished their season losing to Lewis Center Olentangy 42-10 at home. The Trojans could not solve the offensive explosion that Lewis Center produced.
Troy ends season at 9-2.

Valley View moves on to Regionals with big win
Valley View showed why they could be a player in the OHSAA playoffs with a resounding 42-28 win in the first round. QB Caden Cradlebaugh threw 5 TD's - 3 to WR Troy Coulter - as Clinton Massie was no match for the Spartan gunslinger.

Dayton Christian falls after return to playoffs
The DC Crusaders made their way back to the playoffs, only to fall in the first round.

City League Championship Up for Grabs Tonight; Can Dunbar take the Football crown away from Belmont? Top 100 (Southwest Ohio)

City League Championship Up for Grabs Tonight;
Can Dunbar take the Crown away from Belmont?

After a long season of ups and downs, the Belmont Bison and the Dunbar Wolverines are the only undefeated teams (3-0) standing in the Dayton Public League Football Standings.

And tonight, they will decide who will win the 2019 City League Championship, as they clash at 7pm tonight at Welcome Stadium. Belmont has won last 4 of the last 5 Championships and 2 in a row.

Despite both teams having struggles in the season, they have shown that they clearly are the 2 best teams in the City League. Belmont has outscored its opponents 145-18  while Dunbar has overpowered its opponents to a tune of 130-20 total score. Lets break down the teams in the Dayton Weekly Game of the Week (week 10).

Offense:

Belmont – The Bison depend on a running game, led by Senior QB Rian Reeves (DHSS #2), Junior RB Tavon Hardwick (DHSS #5)  and Junior RB Joddi Burton (DHSS #34). The O-Line is the best in the City and uses the “Ground and Pound” strategy to gain advantage of its opponents.  With an experienced Coaching Staff, the ability to throw the ball, as Reeves has a few TD passes this season, and a formula that works in bad weather?

Dunbar – The Wolverines have weapons all over the field, with 2 legit QB’s in Junior QB Greg Packnett Jr (DHSS #6) and sophomore Nate Roberts (DHSS #51). Then you look at current Dayton HS Sports #1 Ranked WR – Junior Brandon Wright and #4 Ranked Jaquan Lusbourgh (WR), and talented RB James Murray (DHSS #20) rounding out the stars of the offense. But don’t be fooled; there are other players who could breakout as well.

Advantage: Dunbar

Defense:

Belmont – With Star LB Adrian Cook (DHSS #10) sidelined this season, it has been others who have filled the void. The Estes brothers have been a factor; Daljuan Estes (DHSS #28) and Latrell (DHSS #24) along with Kiko Garcia (DHSS #53) have anchored the Defensive Line and Linebackers core.  Some have mentioned Garcia as being the most consistent defender on the Bison team. Rising stars Tay Arnold (DHSS #22) and Kenyan “Money” Moon (DHSS #33) lead the backfield.

Dunbar – Defensive studs Jacar’e Morris (DHSS #11) and Alex Dawkins (DHSS #23) have been big time this season, as they have been rock solid in the middle. Add playmaking DB’s Jamar Payton (DHSS #45), T’Shaun Richardson (DHSS #49), and rising player Myles Lacking (DHSS #55) who all have been lights out in the last few weeks, and now you’re ready for war.
Advantage: Even

Coaching:

Belmont: With Earl White running the team, Doug Spears calling the plays, and the entire staff in control; this is the best staff in the City League. Has been for the last 3 or 4 years.

Dunbar: With Eric Freed in his 2nd season, and bringing back Al Powell and Lacking, along with his staff, have shown they can win and get results after a tumultuous start to the season.

Edge: Belmont

Keys to the Game:

  • ·        Can Dunbar stop Belmont from rushing the ball?
  • ·        Can Belmont’s young studs stop the offensive passing arsenal of Dunbar?
  • ·        Which stars will step up when the lights are the brightest?

  • ·        Who will win the Special Teams battle?

Final Analysis:

In a game with football type of conditions (Wet, possibly rain, 45 degrees)  can the Wolverines find a way to stop the Bisons reign of the City League?

Game will come down to the wire, with Belmont winning 23-21.
NOTE: If Greg Packnett starts game, we are going with Dunbar with the win.
If not, we take the Bison.

Trotwood, C-J battle for State Semifinal berth; Winton Woods vs LaSalle

With only 2 local teams left in the OHSAA playoffs and 1 of them guaranteed a State Semifinal spot, it's been another solid year in the Miami Valley.
This year Chaminade-Julienne (9-3) & Trotwood (12-0) teams will battle for the right to play in the D-3 Semifinal Game next weekend.

The Rams were predicted by many to be a Stare Finalist, as they had a major portion of their players from last season still in tow.

Led by Senior RB Raveion Hargrove, who just won District Player of the Year, the Rams have been dominant all year, leading to the top spot in the OHSAA State D-3 poll.

C-J on the other hand?

Not so much, although you seen the talent last season.
The Eagles started out 0-2, then reeled off 7 straight before being dusted off by Alter in the final week of the season.

Despite the loss, the Eagles slipped into the playoffs, and avenged the loss in the 1st round against Alter by smacking the Knights 49-24.

They then topped that in the Regional Final with a sweet comeback win last weekend, led by rising senior Star QB Ryan Peltier, who has been lights out for most of the season, especially late.

The 6'4 gunslinger has presence and a arm to get it anywhere on the field. And he can run too. Which makes for for a dynamite match-up against Trotwood lefty Markell Stephens-Peppers who has been a Top 5 All-Ohio QB all season himself.

The difference?
Trotwood defense has been deadly all season and don' expect anything different tonight. They will be missing one of their star two-way players in Sammie Anderson, but still have enough versatility to offset the loss.

And of course, 3kray, which is Hargrove's fast growing and social media buzzing nickname.

Recently there has been a lot of hate for how good Hargrove is.
Calling him a prima donna. Needs to be taken down.
Hargrove is the epitome of what you want in a high school student-athlete, which is why he is revered by everyone in his circle, and respected by his peers the way very few are.

Coach Colvin of C-J has done a magnificent job of getting the Eagles to believe up to this point.
Can he come up with the perfect game plan to outmatch wits with the best staff in the game in Trotwood? Can they defeat Jeff Graham and his staff and knock off the huge favorites?

Or will Ram Nation continue to show why they are on a mission for that elusive State Championship?

Games at Stebbins HS (730 pm)

Battle for State Berth in Rematch game in Cincy

Cincy LaSalle has had a good run and will see if that trend will continue against a tough Winton Woods squad who already beat them once.
Woods, who easily won last week, is the favorite but LaSalle is a very tough team, and it will be hard to beat twice.
Both teams are playing at a very high level right now.

It's Official: Powell regains job at Dunbar; Did Committee get it right?

After one of the most high profile high school situations in OHSAA history,  Dunbar coach Darran Powell was approved on Tuesday night to be re-hired as the head coach of the Dunbar Wolverines.

Powell and staff will be back for 2017

The Dayton Public School Committee finally got it right.

Finally.
Better late than never right?

Powell, who lost his job due to lack of votes in the re-hiring process recently, was awarded his job back in a voting process that favored him 6-1.

Most, if not all, did truly feel that Powell did deserve a his job back.
The one person who voted no wanted to hear a apology from Powell, which was his reason for voting no, citing a lack of real remorse from Powell and his staff.

In the scandal and hottest topic of the 2016 High School season, Dunbar allegedly tried to throw a game vs Belmont after playing a ineligible player and being called out on it by the Belmont staff.

It was alleged that the AD (Mark Baker) told the Coaches at Dunbar to let Belmont win, so that both teams would make the playoffs after being caught paying the ineligible player.

The game was eventually stopped by the officials  briefly after the Wolverines looked to try to the throw the game. Albeit in bad fashion as well.

After delegation, the Wolverines finished off the Bison, but in effect, would be the final straw for Dunbar as they would forfeit their final 2 games, causing a playoff shift in teams who would and wouldn't make it, and eliminating themselves and watching Belmont go to the playoffs for the 2nd consecutive season.

Will the Bison make it 3 straight years in the playoffs?

Once the dust had settled, Baker had denied all reports of him telling the staff to throw the game, while Powell had openly told his teams parents in a meeting the Sunday after the game, that he would never do anything like that knowingly.

Pete Pullen, the legendary basketball coach, resgined as the AD from Dunbar after the situation, which then left it a Powell-Baker situation.

Baker, who has denied all accusations, was cleared by Superintendent Rhonda Corr of any wrongdoings but was found at fault by OHSAA, which led to a 3-year Probation settlement on DPS.

As long as Baker is in office, there will be probation, which was the messaged relayed to the District.

Nevertheless, Baker got a 2-year extension.
 And Powell?
He lost his job, even though he won the majority of the votes.

So when the word got out that someone else would be coaching the Wolverines and how Powell actually lost his job?

The entire organization stood up for Dunbar coach, which set the stage for tonight.

After the results, the Dunbar contingent hugged and celebrated.
While Darran Powell wasn't at the event,  the Powell family was in full force, and was very relieved in the final results.

Assistant coach Antoine Sain felt like the kids would be the most to benefit, as Powell is like a "Father figure" to a lot of the Wolverines.

When it was over, Rhonda Corr waved to the Dunbar family and congratulated them on the ruling.
In return, some of the Wolverines waved back and talked.

In a tumultuous year, this was the absolute best move Corr and the committee has made.
 Hands down.

Now when is that Belmont-Dunbar game this year?

Oh yeah, it's the Season Opener.

You can bet that Powell is already at work.
Now he can eat and sleep again.

Underdog Rams look to finish with State Championship

Trotwood Rams will play for a chance to win the OHSAA D-3 Football Championsip today (3pm). They will take on Archbishop Hoban (13-1), the champions from last season at Ohio State Stadium.

Can the "Underdog" Rams grab that elusive State Championship

The Rams have been counted out all year as a serious threat to win a Football State title.

While other teams looked more the part, the Rams struggled in game 1, losing to Troy 12-6.

Raveion Hargrove struggled with a early season injury, along with other key players.
 We're the Rams overrated?
Was this just not going to be the year they expected? Would they still be a year away?

Then came the schedule.

The Rams schedule was called soft, weak, and not tough enough to get the Rams ready for the playoffs.
Despite being one of the top dogs in the GWOC for the last decade, the Rams still are overlooked, especially on the Local & National front.

Today, the entire Ram Nation will have their chance, as they take on a ready for war Hoban squad.
The Rams, once again, will not be favored in this game despite having a elite team.
Should be no sweat for Coach Jeff Graham and the Rams.

Hoban has everything to lose as they are going for legendary status with back to back championships.
Trotwood also has a lot to lose, as they don't want to fall to 1-4 in Championship games.
The Rams have made it to the state final 5 of the last 7 years, and have reached the State Semifinal the last 7 straight, a record in the Southwest Ohio area.
If the Rams can seize a huge victory today, they will solidly themselves as a perennial title contender, a giant slayer, and a National powerhouse in the making.

Former NFL Player, now Coach Maurice Douglass guided Ram Nation back to prominence and handed the baton to Jeff Graham, who has done a masterful job in his own right, winning a State title and losing one in his tenure.
For Graham and the Rams, winning on Ohio State soil would feel no sweeter than to the Rams Coach, who starred at Ohio State before heading to the pros.
He told his players to take a few minutes and "soak up the moment." Before the big game at Buckeye Stadium.
"You will get emotional" Graham said.

Look for a inspired Rams game today.

The defense has been lights out, & healthy star  RB Ravieon Hargrove has been electrifying along with the passing game.
Hargrove will get a chance to play where he could end up in 2 years.
Expect something special today from the underdogs.

The game is featured and televised on Time Warner today.

3 Teams go for State Berth Tonight; Why Pickerington deserves a beatdown? Matchups, Predictions& more

With a Chance at State Seminal Berth on the line, here's the Match ups for Friday Night:

D-1
Wayne (11-0-1)   vs Pickerington Central (11-1)  @
 London HS
As if Wayne wasn't focused enough, they received a couple of photos that turned out to be bulletin board material for the Wayne Train. Central described the Warriors as thugs and convicts, which sent the net into a frenzy and now will set the stage for two teams who have a chance to reach State Semifinals tonight.
The Warriors are too good of a team and too well coached to fall into the buffoonery that Pickerington is trying to cause.
Look for a Wayne win 37-24.

D-2
Miamisburg (10-2)   vs  Cincy LaSalle  (10-2)  @
Mason HS
Miamisburg has been able to win with a huge o-line, a physical backfield and skill players all over the field. Combine that with a fiery unpredictable coach, and the Burg is a LaSalle defeat away from State. Problem is LaSalle is as focused as ever and boasts a potent offense of its own.
We got Miamisburg winning 31-26.

D-4
Alter  (12-0)   vs Cincy Wyoming (12-0)
The Knights will face a stiff test in Wyoming, as they have handled all their opponents the same way Alter has. Easily.  Alter seems to have a focused unparalleled in a while, and that could spell doom for the undefeated Wyoming squad who is led by a D-1 signee of its own.
We got Alter winning via the running game and late game coaching by a score of 34-28.

Saturday

D-3
Trotwood  (11-1)   vs St Mary's Memorial (11-1)

Dunbar streaks past Ponitz in 2nd half; Put 56 on the board

For about 20 solid minutes or for most of the 1st half, Ponitz went toe for toe, and actually had the lead vs Dunbar, much like last year;

The Panthers showed they had the gameplan to play with the favored Wolverines. Star RB Jamil Freeman was doing work, & after a strong TD run by Ponitz late in the 2nd quarter, it looked as if we might have a upset on our hands, as the Panthers led 14-12.  The Panthers crowd was hype, and the sense of a Ponitz win was starting to look like a reality.

After that, Dunbar outscored Ponitz 44-21 in a blistering display of offense as they routed Ponitz 56-35.

Local and Ohio State Legend Keith Byars at the game

With City League legend Keith Byars watching the game, the Wolverines took it up a few notches.

Jo Jo Scates, Keyshawn Jones & Tavion Thomas all scored, as the Wolverines put it all together in the 2nd half as Michigan committ Antwan Johnson led the Defense to some key stops early in the 3rd to take the game from a nail biter to a rout.

Dunbar moves to 2-0 while Ponitz  falls to 1-1.

Ponitz destroys Clark Montessori 48-6 in season opener

The message is very simple for the opponents of the Ponitz Panthers in the Southwest Ohio Public League.

Last year was last year. This a new season. And they're ready.

Freeman runs wild on Clark Montessori

The Ponitz Panthers (1-0) came out the gate firing on all cylinders and was able to defeat the Clark Montessori Cougars 48-6 last night in the Season Opener@ Welcome Stadium.

From the very 1st possession it was clear who was the better team.
Last year Clark Montessori (0-1) almost beat the Panthers, losing by a point.

Co-MVP of the game Jamil Freeman got the scoring going with a 41-yard run to go up 7-0.  He scored twice as he also had a dazzling 56 yard run  later in the game as well.
Freeman had over 100+ and was dominant just about every time he touched the ball.

After the first score, Clark was stopped on their first possession, in which Ponitz scored again on a 2-yard run by QB Xavier Henry, who had 2-TD runs and a TD pass as well.

After the 1st quarter it was 28-0 & the rout was on.

The defense was led by Co-MVP DL Damonte Purdue who had 4 sacks and was completely unstoppable on the interior.

Panthers Coach Jim Place was very pleased with the way the game plan was executed, and was thrilled with the results. Next week they face the Dunbar Wolverines, which should be a battle.

Tremendous day for Dayton football as HS Signing Day passes; City League Recap

When you look at the list of seniors who receive scholarships to play football in the Miami Valley, you almost have to gasp in shock.

With almost 100 kids in Southwest Ohio signing to go play college football there is no shortage of talent.

And there could be more on the way after the All -Star games commence.

Trotwood (7),  Wayne (16) & Springfield (13) led the charge with the most kids signing letters of intent. Dunbar led Dayton Public Schools with 4 players signing to play- most notably Jeffrey Pooler and Terrence Landers Jr, who respectively chose West Virginia and Purdue.

Meadowdale star C-J Williams will go play at Georgetown next season.

Davion Lankford, Belmont's electrifying RB, and the Top Player in the City League, must take the ACT / SAT and see where that will put him, as a handful of D-1s wait to see what his status will be.

The Wayne Train once again showed that they are at the top of the class by getting 16 kids a scholarship.
Not only does this take a great dedication from the coaches, but focus from the support system, school, and from the kids as well.

Former NFL Pro Maurice Douglass, now Springfield coach, got 14 players into college, an amazing amount,  considering that the Wildcats had a average season.
Just shows you that, no mater where you are, if you put in the time in the classroom and on the court, YOU CAN AND WILL BE REWARDED.

Trotwood continued it's dominating success of getting players to the next level, and had 7 great kids sign.

Which brings me to my final topic which is Dayton Public Schools.

Lamar Florence will head to Cincinnati Christian

With the talent that comes through DPS, the city should be second to none as far as kids getting a scholarship to play.
However, for some reason, High school football is not as revered in Dayton public as basketball.

With the new coaches in the fold, look for that to change within the next few years, along with a couple of other major announcements and events which could help spike the interest and the amount of players that get scholarships from Dayton Public Schools.

While it's not all about a kid getting a sports scholarship, at least it shows that the kid were dedicated enough to hit the books and stay focused on the bigger prize. Which is a college scholarship to get a degree. Or go pro.
It's already hard enough to maneuver through the obstacles that happen on the daily.

Which also brings up the classroom aspect.

This topic is very much the biggest obstacle: young inner city kids not taking advantage of their talents, because,  simply put, just don't have the grades. Whether the kids just don't want to do it, or not being pushed hard enough by the parents, or just not quite smart enough, there is a problem. But when you look at all the players who did get a scholarship?
It lets you know that these DPS kids - & parents-   need to get on top of their game. When only a handful of football players getting scholarships from Dayton Public Schools after almost 100 kids (overall) recieved one throughout the Miami Valley?

Clearly disappointing. & Eye opening.

Salute all the kids, coaches and parents for guiding your kids to the next level.
