Week 2 Playoff Recap: Trotwood, Springfield roll; Alter falls; Valley View wins squeaker

After 10+ teams in the first round, the action was all over the Miami Valley.
However, in the 2nd round?
Not so much, as only 4 teams were still left standing in the Dayton area as we enter the Regionals.

Trotwood
Springfield
Alter
Valley View

Here's the Headlines for Each Game:

Tolliver leads Springfield to 1st ever Regional Final

Jeff Tolliver, the dynamic running back and kick returner, has been a spark plug whenever the Cats' have needed some juice.
And never was that more evident than in the Regional Semifinal as Tolliver would run all over Dublin Jerome 37-14 en route to Springfields' first ever Regional Championship.

Tolliver would run for 144 yards and 2 TD's as the Wildcats ran for over 250 yards total against a tough Jerome defense.
Tolliver would score first again for Springfield, on a 28-yard burst to get Cats on the board first. Tae'Sean Smoot, the Super Sophomore, slid past the defenders on a 8-yard TD run to give Springfield a 13-0 lead into half.

After a quick strike for Dublin Jerome to close the gap to 13-7, Springfield would respond with 3 straight TD scores to turn a close game into a rout (34-7).
While Larry Stephens was held to only 1 catch, the Wildcats took advantage of the power running game that Coach Maurice Douglass has implemented. Especially Tolliver.

"We're making history every day" Head Coach Maurice Douglass stated.

Springfield will take on Dublin Coffman at London HS on Friday night.

Huguely, Blanton lead Rams back to 10th Regional Final in 11 years

Keon'tae Huguely, Cooper Stewart celebrate

Trotwood used its balance attack and a stifling defense to propel themselves into another Regional Final, by smacking down St Marys Memorial 41-7 at Sidney High School.
The Rams would open the scoring with a Ke'Shawn Huguely run, one of 3 TD's  on the day for the star Running back, to go with his 130 yards on the ground.
In the 2nd quarter St Marys defense would tighten up, stalling the Rams on the final series in the 1st half on a huge goal line stand, keeping them in the game and slightly frustrating the Rams entering half (7-0 Trotwood).

With St Marys elusive running game being ineffective for the most part, Trotwood would regain possession and in the 3rd quarter, was able to strike deep with a 49-yard TD to Star Wide receiver Carl Blanton from Cooper Stewart.
With the TD it would give the Rams a advantage heading into the final stages that would never be threatened. St. Marys Memorial could not pass the ball, and when they did, Keon'tae Huguely would intercept the pass attempt, foiling St Marys biggest threat in the 2nd half, and for all intenses and purposes, ending the game.

The win puts Trotwood in their 11 consecutive Regional Finals, a OHSAA record. They have won 10 of their last 11 Regional Semifinal games as well. The Rams will face Hamilton Badin, who knocked off Alter last week. The Game will be at Miamisburg HS.

Alter falls to Badin again
The Alter Knights roller coaster of a season is now over, as they lost to Hamilton Badin 38-21. In a game Badin controlled for the most part, the Knights got the game to 17-14 before Badin would pull away in 2nd half.
Alter ends season at 7-5.

Valley View knocks off Roger Bacon
Valley View will move to Regional Final after a big win over Roger Bacon 28-27. With the win the Spartans will reach another Regional Final.

College Report:
Toppin Shows Leadership, dominates as Flyers stay undefeated

Obi Toppin could be in the NBA right now, but he decided to come back to play for Dayton after having a good Freshman year.
But its starting to look like that coming back was a great move, as the NBA Prospect has dominated in first couple of games this season.
Toppin, who stands at 6'11, looks like a man among boys. He had 13 and 8 in the 1st half of the Charleston Southern blowout win. He had 29 and 13 in the Season opener. And his dunks?
Gamechangers.
All the signs of Toppin (1) possibly taking the Flyers to the NCAA's in March and (2)Toppin declaring for the draft and being a 1st round pick.
In the meantime? The Flyers will look to keep their undefeated season rolling.
