Week 3 Key Games; Week 2 Recap:Trotwood blunces back; Alter smacks Thurgood in Game of the Week; C-J, Springboro stay undefeated;

Here's the Top Headlines for Week 2 of HS Football in the Miami Valley:

(1) Alter shuts out Thurgood in Game of the Week

Thurgood wanted to see how good they were coming into the early season after a big win qt Welcome Stadium
Problem is, how is Alter? Could they be headed for a deep tourney run?

The Knights was able to halt a pumped up Cougar football team who had came off a big performance in Week 1.
Early in the 1st quarter (after a stalled drive by Thurgood), Alter would score after a big run by QB Cale Steineman that would set up a final TD run capped by All-State candidate RB Branden McDonald.

On the next possession, Thurgood would throw a interception to setup a field goal gave the Knights a 10-0 lead.

After trading punts, Thurgood would fumble the punt deep in their own territory - which was a backbreaking play.
Alter would recover, score on a McDonald run, and for all intent and purposes, it was, "Warm up the bus time" as the Knights would win 24-0 at Rousch Stadium.
While the offense was able to move the ball, the penalties and turnovers were a deadly combination for the Cougars, who now fall to 1-1 on the season.

Thurgood Coach Brian Carter was dissapointed in his teams play, but noted that if not for the mental laspes?

Could have been a different story.
In speaking with Former NFL Lineman and current Alter coach Derrick Shepard, the Cougars were prepared and ready for the challenge.

But noted that, "This Alter team is focused and was better tonight."

The Knights move to 2-0 on the season, while Thurgood falls to 1-1.
