Wayne throttles Centerville; Dunbar D dominates; Trotwood wins 5th straight; Alter drops 65 on Roger Bacon

Heres the Week 6 Results from HS Football in Southwest Ohio

Dunbar D led by Antwuan Johnson (2), Seth Arnold (5), & JoJo Scates (6) battles Meadowdale

Wayne shuts down Elks on Homecoming
Wayne shuts down  Cent. erville  as they scored 24 points in the 1st quarter with defense, and budding star QB Rashad McKee threw 2 TD passes- one to Ray James and L'Christian "Blue"Smith as the Warriors trounced the host Elks. Kenyon Byrd had a Pick 6 for the WayneTrain.
The Warriors are 2nd in the state in D-1, and are 5-0-1, while Centerville falls to 3-3.

Trotwood puts up 66 in winning 4th straight
The Rams star RB Raveion Hargrove made his return known from the start, as he took his first attempt and ran 63 yards for the score against West Carrollton. The Pirates actually tied it at 6, but the Rams would put up 60 straight unanswered points in the victory. Hargrove ended up with 160+ yards and 3 TDs as the Rams (5-1) won their 5th straight game. The Pirates fall to 1-5.

Dunbar D shuts out Meadowdale
Dunbar junior 2 way star Jo Jo Scates ran back the kickoff against the Lions, and the Wolverines never looked back as they halted Meadowdale's 2 game winning streak by winning 46-0. The Wolverines D was on point as the Lions could not get in the end zone. Dunbar also had TD's from WR Chris Jackson & RB Tavion Thomas, and rising junior LB Seth Arnold had a pick 6 for the 5-1 Wolverines. Meadowdale falls to 2-4.

Springfield dumps Xenia
Xenia was no match for the Wildcats, who were led by RB Shane Ramey's TD Runs (64, 54, & 14) as they jumped out to a 13-0 lead en route to a 40-18 win. Star player Danny Davis scored twice as well, and the Wildcats now move to 4-2 while Xenia falls to 2-4.

C-J wins 3rd straight
C-J won a big conference game as they defeated Purcell Marian 28-21. Once 0-3, the Eagles have regrouped and now have won 3 straight and are brimming with confidence.

Thurgood falls to Taft
Cincy Taft, a top team in the SWOPL last year, shut down Thurgood & their winning streak as Taft won 47-7. Taft is 2-0 in the conference and could be setting up a huge matchup vs Dunbar down the road

2nd Ranked Alter posts 65 on Roger Bacon
Alter continues its torrid play with scoring a robust 65 on Cincy Roger Bacon. Alter is 2nd in the state and has risen every week in the OHSAA Standings.

Troy bounces back

City League Championship on the line; Wayne - Springfield rematch

Here's the key games this weekend as we hit the late stretch of the Hoop Season:

(1) City League Championship in balance as Dunbar travels to Thurgood.

In the last 15 years, the City League hoop Championship has been decided by 2 teams -
Dunbar and Thurgood.
And to no surprise to many, Thurgood Marshall and Dunbar will battle tonight for the City League crown.

LISTEN TO DUNBAR -THURGOOD GAME TONIGHT ON LINK BELOW:
                   radio1.gemcitysports.com

While The last time these teams played, Thurgood hit a huge 3 at the buzzer to defeat the Wolverines - in Heroic fashion no less.

Darnell Hoskins Jr. was terrific, and hit 2 huge buzzer beaters (one to end each half) that catapulted the Cougars into the early lead, then gave them the final win, shocking the Wolverines.
Now tonight both teams know exactly what is at stake, as it seems every year for the last 15 years that these two teams are playing for it all.

Dunbar is 7-1 in the City League Standings & if they win, will win the City League outright; If Thurgood (6-1) wins, they will control their own destiny, as they have one game left, and could win it outright as well.

The one factor that will be different in this game than before is the presence of Evan Claiborne.

Claiborne, the former Wolverine now Cougar, was the talk of the summer for the transfer he made from the State Semifinalist.

The 6'10 defensive stopper with range has played well since being inserted in the Cougars lineup, and watch for the emotions to fly in this game, which will be on a Championship level to say the least.
Dunbar has seemingly found its rhythm, and while it hasn't been a dominant year, the Wolverines have had a good one nonetheless, and it could be sweeter with a revenge win in the Cougardome to grab another City League title.
 Who wins the epic matchup?

Let's compare the two sides & matchups a little further:

GUARD PLAY:  ADVANTAGE  -  Cougars
While Dunbar's Stormi Cook has had a breakout year, and Chris Jackson started fast, the Cougars get the nod as Hoskins Jr. has been so good, that he is the front runner for Player of the Year in the City League.
7

FORWARDS: Advantage -  Wolverines
While Thurgood has players to matchup with Wolverines, they have nobody on the level of Senior Wing Terrance Landers Jr, who, with a big game tonight,  could also make a serious claim for the City League Player of the Year.

CENTERS: Advantage - Cougars
While the Wolverines now play small ball, the Cougars now have the big presence in the paint in Claiborne,  and this is a huge advantage that the Wolverines had the luxury of for the past two years.
If the big men show up for Dunbar, it could propel them to a win. If not, could be a HUGE night for Claiborne.

COACHING :  ADVANTAGE   - Even
With some of the best coaching minds on the sidelines for each team, its safe to say that neither side will have a real advantage come tonight.

Coach Pete Pullen of Dunbar has been in this situation so many times, that him and his staff are used to it. Thurgood Coach Darnell Hoskins has also thrived in tough situations, and will be ready to lock wits with the Wolverines.

when the season started, most people thought that this would be the matchup for the City League title. And right on cue, it hasn't let us down.
Be prepared for one of the games of the year tonight in
Its goin' down in the Cougar dome. (Around 730 -8pm)
& it will be a sellout, so get there early.

(2) "The Field" takes on Wayne Train tonight

With so many victories on this incredible run, the Warriors have hurt everybody's feelings who have been in the way.

And in a way, they could thank the Wildcats for that.
Springfield tapped Wayne a couple seasons ago, and since that tapping, the Warriors haven't looked back in the last two years.
While everyone knows about the wildness that took place between the Warriors and Wildcats last year, the Wildcats did play the Warriors almost to a even tilt, and even gave the Wayne Train all they could handle in the OHSAA Regionals.

But when the smoke settled, the Wayne Train is still on the tracks..and running over opponents in the process as they look to get into USA Top 10 (Ranked 11th) in the country.
Which brings us to the match up tonight.

Wayne has been winning all type of ways.

Springfield has lost a series of heartbreaking games, but still has had a solid season to date.

Does the Wildcats have enough to pull off the upset that could change their season?

Let's look at the matchups:

GUARD PLAY: ADVANTAGE - Even

Despite having Rodrick Caldwell, a BGSU signee, the Wildcats have Danny Davis, a super talented, athletic Guard who has D-1 coaches hoping for his services. Whole Wayne has more than Caldwell, the Wildcats do too.

FORWARDS: Advantage  - Wayne

While Springfield has size at the 3 and 4, the Wayne Train duo of Chazz George and Trey Landers is, quite possibly, the best in the state. Landers has been nothing short of dominant, and that was no more evident in the destroyal inside against Trotwood. The Warriors had their way the first time..Will it change this time?

CENTERS: Advantage - Wayne

While Springfield has a monster on the block, who, once started up, can't be stopped, the Warriors have a future All-american in L'Christian Smith.
Smith has been phenomenal, especially in the last up games, and has helped taken the Warriors to the next level. And yes, he's only a sophomore.
While Wayne has a slight advantage,  it could be taken away if the Field can get the big man working early.

COACHING : ADVANTAGE - Even

While there is no doubt that Wayne Coach Travis Trice Sr, is the man, the top HS Hoop coach right now in Southwest Ohio, the Wildcats have a great mind as well in Coach Isiah Carson.

While Carson hasn't been able to win the big one, he still has done a good job of having the team ready to play. And make no mistake,  they will be ready to play tonight.
Can he push the right buttons to pull off the upset?

No matter what the records are, this game will be as intense as a Regular season game can be.
GWOC style.

Top 5 games of Week 6; The Field vs The Wayne Train, Dunbar Meadowdale

(1) Wayne (5-0) -  Springfield (2-3)
In what will be a war to say the least this game has more storylines then the hit TV show Empire.

 How do u say?

Let's just start with Coach Maurice Douglass rejuvenating the Springfield program and getting it to a point where this game will have talent all over the field. And coming off a 51 point explosion last week. They know if they win this game?
Oh boy.
Then you have all- state star QB Messiah DeWeaver, the heralded quarterback for Wayne, who used to play for Douglas at Trotwood.        DeWeaver left Trotwood and now plays for Wayne and there has been reports of a little bit of trash talk come away of Springfield.

Will this be "Bulletin Board Material" for the WayneTrain?

Maybe they dont like him? Or the swag that DeWeaver and his juggernaut program displays?
Maybe they're sick and tired of losing to Wayne?

Now the #WayneTrain has been hyped up even more according to reports...

Regardless of the reason,  this has become the premeire rivalry game in the Miami Valley and in the GWOC,  and tonight will be no exception. Look the Wayne train to win, but it'll be in a close game (24-18)
This could shape up to be the game of the year in the Miami Valley & one that you definitely don't want to miss.

(2) Dunbar @ Meadowdale -

While Meadowdale (2-3) has been inconsistent a little bit recently they did shut out their last
opponent. Dunbar (2-3) lost a great opportunity last week to get a road win in a 7-6 defeat in Cincinnati. Dunbar had multiple possesions in the red zone but couldn't finish the deal. Whoever can win this game will have a little bit of momentum in trying to get to the playoffs. Its still within reach for both teams but as the season wanes time is running out. look for A Dunbar win 25 -17.

(3) Trotwood (4-1)  @  Sidney (2-3)

Can  Trotwood, led by the sophomore sensation at running back, go up to Sidney and get a much needed W to keep their playoff hopes intact?
The Rams had a good bounce back game after their first heartbreaking loss. Sidney's been up and down this season, but it would mean much more to the Yellow Jackets to ruin Trotwood season. Nevertheless, Trotwood get it done 30-17.

(4) Northmont @ Beavercreek
Can the Creek get another big win and keep their playoff hopes alive against a tough Thunderbolt team?
We pick the Creek 24-20.

(5) Xenia (2-3) @  West Carrollton (2-3)
yes this game is actually in the top five Y? because West Carrolton has a chance to win two games in a row in 3 games in a season and which the Pirates had lost 20+ games in a row coming into the season. So if West Carrollton can beat a senior team who just defeated Troy, it could show that the Pirates are on the way up in a very tough GWOC.

We got West Carrollton winning in a tight one 17-16.

Last week Record - 4-1

Big Games on tap for Week 5;

As we hit mid-season, its that time of the year when the best of the best start to separate themselves from the pack. That brings us to our top 5 games in week 5 of HS Football in the Miami Valley.

(1) Wayne (4-0)  @  Miamisburg  (4-0)
With the Wayne Train rolling at a blistering championship pace, can the upstart 'Burg pull off the major upset in Miamisburg in the GWOC Game of the Week?   Miamisburg was down 12-0 to Springfield last week but won a battle 13-12.
Wayne had homecoming and trampled Troy 49-7.

L'Christian "Blue" Smith & Messiah DeWeaver after a TD
The Vikings look tough.
The Warriors look state tough.
We got Wayne winning 33-20.

(2) Lebanon (2-2)  @ Trotwood  (3-1)
Lebanon (2-2)  will look to go into a hostile Trotwood environment, after the Rams lost a very tough game in Centerville. Lebanon is a very good team in its own right, and will be looking for the upset.  if Trotwood can win this game, they could be on their way to another banner year.
We're taking the Rams 30-12.

(3) Belmont (3-1) @ Cin. Woodward  (1-2)
Can Belmont seize the moment and defeat a game Woodward opponent in the Nati? A win and the Bison will sit alone in first place in the CMAC  National Division.
We think the Bison will win in a close one 22-20.

(4) Vandalia Butler (3-1)  @  Springfield (1-3)
In a game that has major implications,  can Springfield turn it around against a tough Butler squad? The Wildcats need a win in the worst way, as the season could be slipping away. A Vandalia win and they could be headed towards a playoff berth.
We got Springfield winning big 27-14.

(5) Dunbar (2-2)  @  Schroeder (2-2)
With the CMAC American division lead on the line, can the Wolverines win their second straight in the Nati? The defense will have to  be up to task as the winner will be at least tied for top spot. If Dunbar can win the trenches, this could be a another breakout game.
Wolverines win wild one 34-32.
