Stivers Girls Grab City League Championship; Dunbar Finishes 2nd

The Stivers Tigers girls basketball team came into the season with high hopes, despite not being on the Dayton City League Championship short list of potential candidates.

Despite being under the radar, the Tigers are now in the spotlight as the DPS City League Champions after a 3-point win over the Thurgood Marshall Cougars last night.

Trinity Frazier, DPS Player of the Year?

The win sits the Tigers at 8-1 in the conference, and the Tigers will get ready for this weekend's draw as they look to make some noise in the OHSAA girls tournament.

For the Tigers this is a huge accomplishment, as Dunbar, Ponitz and Thurgood were the ones getting the most attention.

With Head Coach Mike Powell and Assistant coach Doug Spears running the show, the Tigers have been rock solid all season, losing only to Dunbar, in which they had some of their best players not available.

Dunbar finished the season 5-1, but was not able to get enough games in to have a chance at the Championship during this Covid-19 season.

When it comes to the leaders of the team, it has been the leadership and play of Ariana Williams (senior), Paige Turner (junior) and Trinity Frazier.

Frazier is a legitimate Player of the Year Candidate as she has had a few monster games.

Congratulations to the Stivers Tigers, the Dayton Public Schools varsity girls hoop champions.
