New Coaching Staff Provides Juice As Wolverines Win City League

 Dunbar Wins City League As New Coaching Regime Brings Old Results; Can They Make Noise in OHSAA Tournament?

 The Dunbar Wolverines are a proud organization, one that doesn’t take losing quite as well as other high school organizations in the Miami Valley. 

With basketball being at the center of its success, there’s a special vibe when Dunbar basketball is near or at the top of the Dayton Public Schools League and Southwest Ohio. 

After the Wolverines decided on new Head Coach Tony Dixon, things would drastically change, starting in the offseason as Dixon would put together his team of coaches to start putting the change in place.

 Dixon would bring Aaron Pogue, Dwayne Hansbro, Ron Brooks, Duane Morgan and the rest of the esteemed staff. From there he started putting together the recipe for success. Once the season got closer to reality, the Wolverines would tighten up, and it has shown as Dunbar hasn’t lost all season in the City League (8-0). 

         Justin O'Neal, Player of the Year Candidate 

With leaders such as Player of the Year Candidate and Forward Justin O'Neal, the super athletic Combo guard in Chanze Amerson, and dynamic players in F Darian Leslie and the Allen twins, the Wolverines have shown up and shown out all season. 

 Dunbar went undefeated in the city en route to amassing a 15-1 record on the season and showing they will be no joke come OHSAA Tournament time. While this has been a season unlike any other, there are 3 constants in sports we have seen so far: 

(1) Alabama continues to roll in college football 

(2) Tom Brady continues to win Super Bowl rings 

(3) Dunbar Wolverines continue to win City League Basketball Championships 

 Congratulations to Coach Dixon and his great staff and the DPS organization for making the right decision to tab Dixon as the next coach after Coach Lyle Cole had held down the fort for last couple of seasons while Dunbar looked to get back on track.  

Coles' steadiness and handling of the transition is why the Wolverines organization is unlike any other in the area.

And Dixon has showed that, despite the long wait, he is more than ready for the opportunity to lead the Wolverines into the OHSAA Tournament and beyond. 

 Dunbar will support and always reach back to their esteemed alumni to stop the bleeding, or to assist with any dire situation. And usually they oblige to. Which is exactly what Cole did. They say they "Bleed blue" and this is what they mean.

The Wolverine Nation will not let their valued program fall for long. Especially in basketball.
