The High School Basketball fans of Miami Valley will get a Xmas gift that should be the price of admission. As it has been for years.

Wayne vs Trotwood.

The 2 schools who have set the bar to a level that very few have been able to reach, specifically in the last decade.
D-1 and D-2 athletes all over the court.
Sold out gyms.  Every time.
Ram Nation and the Wayne Train at it once again tonight (Wayne HS, 7:30pm).

Over the years, the talent and hype level of these games have been second to none in Southwest Ohio.
2 years ago, both teams were ranked in the Top 10 in the state. The game was shown all over the state by Fox Sports.
The former stars who have went on to play collegiately is astounding.
From the likes of Travis Trice, to Torrey Patton, to Blue Smith.
Trey Landers, Amir Foster, Myles Belyeu to name a few.

Now, new stars in the Name of Amari Davis (Trotwood) and Ronnie Hampton (Wayne).

Davis, who just became Trotwood's All-Time leading scorer, has been Mr. Basketball like in his senior year, averaging over 30 ppg, along with almost 9 boards and a whopping 7 steals a game.
7 steals a game?
More than double the 2nd place guy in the GWOC.
From a guy who is as smooth as silk, and has the offensive explosion to play for any college in the country.
Davis has led the Rams, who were ranked #1 in the preseason Polls, to a undefeated ranking and a 100 point average as they have been rolling all season.

Hampton, a dynamic guard for Wayne, has led the Warriors to some big wins late and while he still looks to get loose offensively this season, his skill set, toughness, and ability to lead has Wayne (4-3)winning its last 2 coming into the showdown.

Wayne Coach Martindale knows that this will be one of the toughest games his squad will face this season.
The Rams are loaded,undefeated (6-0) and already upset that they won't be in the GWOC in the future.
So all bets are off.
Look for a intense battle tonight in Huber Heights.

Davis Becomes Rams All Time Leading Scorer

Amari Davis, the Mr Basketball Candidate, and Wisconsin GB commit, became the all-time leading scorer in Trotwood Rams history, as he overtook the record in a tourney at Crispus Attackus  (Indianapolis) last weekend.
Davis eclipsed the 1,000 point mark last year in Indy, so the Hoosier state was good to him and his squad, as they garnered up wins to stay undefeated this season.

Davis, a 6'4 lefty who has incredible leaping, a smooth Mid-Range J, and a knack for the dramatic, has improved his game every year, and he could be a real choice for Mr. Basketball, especially if the Rams make it back to the OHSAA State Semifinals, which they have done the last 2 years.

Couldn't happen to a better student athlete.
Davis is well liked throughout the Rams contingent and beyond. Soft spoken, but once its gametime?
A bonafide killer.

Stivers, Thurgood Battle for Top Spot Tonight; Rams stop Elks, Avaiators stay undefeated; Top 5 Games of Weekend

Even though its early in the season, we have reached a key point in the City League Hoop chase as the Holidays near. 

Heres the top games of the Weekend:

(1) Thurgood (4-1)  vs  Stivers  (5-0) 

2 Teams who figured to be sitting in this position have not dissapointed, as the Cougars held off Meadowdale at the buzzer to remain on a 4-game winning streak, while Stivers stayed undefeated behind the heroics of Junior Star G Trevon Ellis in a close win vs Ponitz.

Both teams have a plethora of talent who could make the difference. 

The intriguing notion?

This is Coach Shawn McCullough old alma mater, and was the last place he head coached before getting the Thurgood job. 

(2) Xenia   (3-0)    vs  Trotwood  (2-0) 

Can UC signee Samari Curtis continue his blistering play against the class of the GWOC?

The Rams feel snuffed, after hearing they were kicked out of the GWOC unceremoniously. 

They are showing no mercy and with superstar G Amari Davis averaging 29 a game, they will be ready for all challenges! 

(3) Springfield  (3-0)  @  Centerville.  (3-1)

Can the Field head to Centerville and get a big win over the angry Elks? Centerville lost to Trotwood and will be anxious to get back on the winning track.

Week 1 HS Recap: Trotwood sends statement; Thurgood stays undefeated; Conley 54 sets record; Stivers stops Belmont; Lions, Taft win in Hi-Top Classic; Top Players of Week 1

Heres some of the Highlights and Top Headlines after the 1st full week and weekend in High School Hoops in Miami Valley area:

(1) Preseason #1 Trotwood sends statement in huge opening win over West Carrollton
Trotwood came out with a vengeance againet West Carrollton, storming out to a 34-8 lead and cruising to a 133-50 season openeing win.
All-Ohio G Amari Davis, the Wisconsin GB commit, led the Rams with 29 points.
The Pirates fall to 1-3 on the season. Trotwood, ranked #1 in the Preseason Poll, goes to 1-0.


(2) Thurgood rolls to 3-1 after win over Ponitz
The Cougars have rode their senior leadership of Eric Middlebrook and Elmore to a 3-1 record in the early season, including a big road victory over Ponitz. Add to the fact that Fabolous Frosh Mehki Elmore has been the best player in the City in Week 1?
Scary potential for the McCullough led Cougars.


(3) Dunbar defeats Meadowdale on final shot, then fall to Taft in Hi-Top Classic
The Dunbar Wolverines showed guts and heart to beat Meadowdale in OT after Martel Smith knocked down the Game Winning shot.

In the Norris Cole Hi-Top Classic (Saturday)  Dunbar lost to Taft as the Senators senior star big man Nekhi Smith took over the game late and stopped the Wolverines from the upset of one of the top teams in Cincy this year.
Martel Smith  and Jayveion Minor led the Wolverines.
  With the loss Dunbar falls to 1-3.


(4) Lions move to 3-1 after win over Gamble
Meadowdale showed the resolve they will need to have a real shot to have a good year, as they bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to Dunbar with a nice win over Gamble.
Will Hill was unstoppable early, and Justin O'Neal was dominant late to help seal the deal.
The Lions now move to 3-1 on the season.


(5) Gordon leads Sidney to big win over Troy
Andre Gordon help lead the Yellow Jackets to its 2nd win in 3 games with a convincing W over Troy.
With Gordons arrival, it makes the Yellow Jackets a dangerous team.


(6) Elks slide past Fairmont behind Big Mo'
Centervilles version of Tim Duncan - In Mo Nije, the 6'11 stud of a big man who jus gets it done, was able to show out with 17 points, including 3 big wins in a close win over Fairmont. The win keeps Centerville undefeated heading into primetime matchup against Trotwood.


(7) Northmont rolls as Lewis shines in 3-0 week
The Bolts, led by star G Danny Lewis and F Phophet Johnson, have gotten off to a good start this season, as the big win they had against Greenville pushes their record to 3-0 after a good week.
Lewis has led the Bolts in scoring in all 3 games this season. The senior G is a 2 sport star and has offers in football amand basketball.


(8) UC Commit leads Xenia to a home win
Samari Curtis poured in 32 points in front of the Xenia crowd as the Bucs knocked off Lebanon at home. With the win the Bucs are undefeated and have the type of team who could make some noise. Curtis has been on fire all season.



(9)  Wayne falls in final moments
Wayne was able to get a tough win against Beavercreek, as Ronnie Hampton (15pts) and Rashad McKee led the Warriors.
With the win Wayne goes to 2-2 on the season.



(10) Springfield wins ugly battle
The Cats was held to 7 points in the entire 1st half-
Yet still won on the road at Miamisburg.
In a game that resembled the football war, the Cats won the 2nd half by a score of 29-17 to win a defensive battle 36-31.
Raheim Moss and Larry Stephens III led the charge as the Cats move to 2-1 on the season.



(11) Stivers stays undefeated with big win over Belmont
Stivers knows the X is on the chest, but continues to win as they knocked off a ready Belmont squad at home to move to 4-0 on the season.
Allen Lattimore and Trevon Ellis has been the engineers of one of the most explosive offenses in the Miami Valley.
Ponitz falls to 1-2 on the season.

THURSDAY NIGHT RECAP:
BELMONT WINS CITY LEAGUE, ROLLS PAST LIONS 50-14 

 BELMONT left no doubt who was the top dog in Dayton Public Schools, as they romped Meadowdale (3-7) by the score of 50-14 at Welcome Stadium.

The win puts Belmont at 5-5, giving them a tie or winning season 4 years straight.

While it wasnt a banner year for Bison head coach Earl White, he hopes his young team will understand the importance of the hardcore schedule he played as they prep for next year.

The loss drops Meadowdale to 3-7 on the season.

Belmont looks to wrap up City League vs Meadowdale tonight

     
       The Belmont Bison (4-5) will look to win its 3rd Consecutive Dayton Public League championship as they take on the Meadowdale Lions (3-6) tonight at  Welcome stadium.

While neither team has had the season they wanted, the Bison, who were playoff participants in the last 2 years, will look to finish .500 on the season.

Belmont coach Earl White put together a blistering schedule, in which the Bison started slowly and couldn't recover.

 Meadowdale, was once 2-2, but lost 4 of 5 since.

 While the Lions have been handcuffed with lower numbers in Head Coach Robert Brown first year, the team has fought hard and competed in every contest.

While Belmont is 3-0 in City League Play, Meadowdale is 1-2.

Watch out for Belmont RB Jayzon Wagner  and 2- way star player Bryson Flucas of Meadowdale.

Week 7 Recap: Northmont stops Springfield; Dunbar defeats Meadowdale; C-J falls for 1st time; Trotwood, Wayne, cruise; Xenia drops 52; Alter pounds Carroll; Top Players of Week 7

Here's the Week 7 Headlines, Recap as we talk HS Football in the Miami Valley:

(1) Northmont stops Springfield, eye home playoff game as Hickman, defense shines
The Northmont Thunderbolts was ready for the big matchup with unbeaten Springfield, as they lost in their first big prime time game against Wayne.
Could they step up against one of the top dogs in the Miami Valley and State?

Well there was no question after the Bolts held down the vaunted Cats offense, while Senior WR Drake Hickman caught 2 big TD passes as the Bolts defeated Springfield 25-7.

In a defensive battle, Miles Johnson, the rising star QB, threw 2 big TD passes to Hickman, the defense shut down the explosive offense of the Cats, forcing them into 2 INTS, sacking star QB Raheim Moss 3 times, and forcing the offense into a bad night.

Jestin Jacobs 59 yard TD run sealed the deal for Norhtmont, who now sit at 6-1 on the season.

Springfield star WR Larry Stephens scored on a 66-yard bomb for the Cats, who fall to 6-1.

The Bolts now sit in a prime position, if they can win out, to host a 1st round OHSAA playoff game, barring any letdowns.
Springfield still could host a game, but have a slightly tougher schedule.



(2) Dunbar knocks off Meadowdale 
Dunbar used a good early start to knock off Meadowdale 32-12 in City League action.
While both teams had came in hoping to hoist the City League Championship, only 1 team came out with the energy and effort to make it happen, as Packnett lead the Wolverines to their 3rd win of the season.
With the win Dunbar moves to 3-4 on the season, while Meadowdale falls to 3-4.
Dunbar is now 2-1 in the City League, while Meadowdale falls to 1-1.

(3) C-J takes first loss to Fenwick
Chaminade took their first loss of the season, as they fell to Middletown Fenwick on Friday night. The loss was their 1st of the season, as Fenwick stopped the #1 team in the State 34-19 in Middletown.

The Fenwick offense was clicking on all cylinders, as the running game pounded the Eagles for over 440 yards, with most of it coming from star RB Jack Fessler.

Fessler ran for 315 yards and 3 TD's as the Eagles had no answer for Fessler and the ground and pound game of Fenwick.

The defense of Fenwick shut down C-J's vaunted rushing game to only 80 yards on 30 carries, as they made Fab Frosh Luke Chandler pass mostly.
He had a good game, going 24-37 for 261 and a TD, but was not nearly enough as the Eagles fall to 6-1 on the season.

Fenwick's D was led by DB Henry Nenni, as the star DB had 11 tackles, a Forced Fumble and Recovery to lead the troops. Fenwick impoves their record to 5-2.

While Eagles Coach Marcus Colvin was upset with the loss, he knows the team must regroup for the remainder of the season. C-J falls to 6-1 on the season.



(4) Rams continue to stay hot as Huguely bros shine
Trotwood continues to make it playoff push as they won their 4th win in a row, with a big win over Fairborn 42-6.

Keon'tae Huguely, the junior QB, scored on a 37-yard run and his bro, Ke'Shawn, took a INT for a pick 6 on the next possession, which led to the rout.

Cooper Stewart, the starting QB, also ran for 2 TD's on the day and went 8-9 as well.
The Rams stifled the Skyhawks to 135 yards of total offense.
The Rams have won 4 straight and now improves to 5-2 while Fairborn falls to 0-7.



(5) Belmont falls to Columbus power
The Bison took a tough loss to Bishop Hartley at Welcome Stadium on Frday night.
Hartley, a perennial All-State power, took over early and the Bison proved to be no match for the Ohio power as they lost 42-8.
Belmont made some crucial mistakes early, and was never able to get back in the game after Hartley got going.
The loss drops Belmont to 2-5 on the season.
On the bright side, the Bison strength of schedule still gives them a glimmer of hope for a solid end of season, and they can still win City League with victories in their last 2 games of the season.



(6) Wayne throttles Beavers as Nelson, Lankford ball
The Wayne Train got going early and often against Beavercreek -
only it was the running game that the Wayne Train used to steamroll the Beavers as All-State Candidate and top QB Prospect Rashad McKee got the offense going with a 20 yard burst.
The Warriors would never look back as they won  49-17.

Junior RB Devin Nelson (9 rushes, 164 yards, 3 TDs)  and  Sophomore RB-WR Ja'Rod Lankford (6 rushes, 109 yards, TD) led the Warriors rushing  with over 350 yards total.

Nelson was on a mission, with a 73-yard burst to put his imprint on the game, and to maybe change the mentality of the Warriors this seaoson?
While we know Wayne can pass with the best of Ohio, can they revitalize the running game, which has been a little inconsistent this season?
Coasch Minton knows that, in order for Wayne to have any State hopes, they will have to run the ball as well.
While Beavers RB Sebastian Rendon ran for 141 on 30 carries on the D, the Warriors shut down the rest of the ball carriers, as rising star sophomore DB Jaden Hurd (12 tackles), Senior LB Otis Allen (12 tackles), and senior DB Jerrell Dixon (89 yard INT return) starred on the night.

Wayne moves to 5-2 while Beavercreek falls to 1-6.


(7) Fairmont garners easy win 
Fairmont, led by RBs Aaron Jackson and Jessie DeGlow,  powered to a easy win over West Carrollton.  The win puts Fairmont (6-1) in good position to grab a playoff berth. West Carrollton falls to 1-6 om the season.

(8) Thurgood grabs 2nd win in a row 
The Thurgood Marshall Cougars won their 2nd game in a row as they defeated Jay County 29-14. 
With the win that puts them with 2 wins in a row, heading into showdown with Meadowdale. 

(9) Ponitz gets first win of season
The Ponitz Panthers grabbed their first win of the season with a big win over Gamble Montessori 28-6. 
With the win the Panthers love to 1-6. 


(10)  Alter smacks Carroll 
Alter showed once again that they will be a major player come playoff time as they wore out Carroll 55-7.
The Knights now sit at 6-1 on the season and have a great chance to make the playoffs once again.

(11) Northridge too much for Oakwood 
The Northridge Polar Bears continues to play great ball, knocking off Oakwood 39-24.
With the win Northridge stays in position for a possible playoff berth.

Week 6 Recap: Belmont rolls; Springfield still undefeated; Miamisburg falls;

Heres our Week 6 Recap / Headlines on what went down in the Miami Valley in the football field:

(1) Belmont steamrolls Dunbar as Reeves, Wagner, Sims step up
The Bison knew it was Head Coach Earl White birthday, so there was extra incentive to get a big victory for the coach.
And big victory it was as the Wolverines were no match for a pumped up Bison squad which jumped out early and often for a 54-12 blowout win in which QB Rian Reeves, RB Jayzon Wagner and DB Donovan Sims led the way.

 Wagner had a huge TD run (83 yards) while Reeves directed the Bison to a 46-0 lead at half. Sims, a all-state possibility and D-1 prospect, led the defense.

Belmont, still holding on to slim playoff hopes (2-4)
will be tested heavily this week.


(2) Springfield Stays undefeated after rolling past Xenia
Springfield was able to keep its mojo rolling with a complete effort in a 35-7 win  over Xenia.
The Cats were led by All-State QB Raheim Moss who threw 3 TD's on only 5 passes, a vicious ground game led by Tavion Smoot (114 yds) Jeff Toliver (83 yds, TD) and Michael Brown Stephens
who scored on the ground (82 yds, TD) and through the air (77 yard Rec TD).
The Defense was led by Kentucky recruit and All-Ohio DB Moses Douglas, who had 12 tackles and a receiving TD as well.
Sincere Wells led the Bucs with 66 yards rushing and a TD on the game.
Springfield improves to 6-0 while Xenia falls to 3-3.


(3) Miamisburg falls to Fairmont; blocked punt seals deal
Fairmont used a huge punt block to seize the momentum late in the game, and with a rushing TD ended the undefeated hopes of the Vikings to win 25-24 in Miamisburg on Friday night.
Miamisburg was up 24-13 after a Jon Jerkins rushing TD, when Fairmont scored to cut it to 24-20 early in the 4th.
After Miamisburg was held on downs late, Fairmont blocked a punt and scored in the final minutes of the game as Jesse DeGlow scored his 2nd TD of the game.
The win pushes Fairmont back into prime playoff position at 5-1, while Miamisburg falls to 5-1.


(4) Wayne keeps Elks winless as McKee takes over
The Wayne Warriors improved to 4-2 on the season with a easy win over Centerville. In a game that had been a big deal until this year, as Centerville has struggled mightily this season.
While the Elks kept it competitive, Wayne dominated in the 4th quarter to take control and win 35-21 in Centerville.
After a Chase Harrison TD pass (his 3rd of the game)  Wayne's Star QB Rashad McKee responded.
And he delivered big time.
McKee ran for 2 of his 3 rushing TD's in the 4th to send Wayne to 4-2 on the season.
He accounted for 234 total with 4 TD's, with his lone TD pass to Star receiver Steven Victoria.
Sophomore rising star and Defensive leader Jaden Hurd (DB) led the Warriors with 8 tackles on the night.
Centerville falls to 0-6.



(5) Trotwood offense clicks in big win over Pirates 
The Rams have been trying to find a game to get the offense rolling, and with the high scoring West Carrollton team in town?
Should be a shootout.
Only 1 problem.
Trotwood defense is one of the top defenses in Ohio, and the Pirates QB, had no answers for that stout defense.
Trotwood improved to 4-2 while West Carrollton falls to 1-5.


C-J holds off tough Roger Bacon team on road;Freshman QB steps up
The Eagles went to Roger Bacon without its Star QB, playing against a top team in the conference.
But it was no matter, as the Eagles scored late to defeat Roger Bacon 35-28 behind its freshman QB nonetheless.
The Eagles, #1 in the OHSAA state Poll, held off a tough opponent and stays undefeated in the process.


Meadowdale falls to Beechcroft
The Lions struggled offensively in the big matchup with Columbus Beechcroft as they fell 33-0.
 Meadowdale had came in on a 2 game winning streak but missed out on opportunities early, which sealed their fate. It was a game until the 3rd, when Beechcroft pulled away.
Meadowdale falls to 3-3 on the season.
While Lions Coach Brown was disappointed in the missed opportunities, he still relishes his team being in the playoff race.


Thurgood grabs first W on the season with big home win over Colinwood
The Thurgood Cougars had some close calls this season, but the Cougars would make no mistakes in the big win over Cleveland Collinwood on Saturday.
With 2 way Star DB/WR V'Sean Palmer leading the way, the Cougars blew by Collinwood 49-6 en route to their first win.
While Thurgood has been competitive most games, they were sharp in all 3 phases of the game as they move to 1-5 on the season.


Ponitz falls to Troy Christian
