BOBBY MARTIN "ESPY STORY” TO BE TOLD ON FOX SPORTS ON MOTHERS DAY

ESPY WINNER AND DAYTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS LEGEND PASSES IN CRASH
“BOBBY MARTIN ESPY STORY” TO BE TOLD ON FOX SPORTS ON MOTHERS DAY

Bobby Martin, one of the most inspirational athletes to ever play in Dayton Public Schools and OHSAA history, passed away in a ATV accident recently.

His story will be told on SELive365 Sports Show as
Kerry Ivy, the 3-Time OHSAA Champion of the Trotwood Rams, will come on set of Fox Sports Dayton (WONE 980 AM or Iheartradio APP) on Mothers Day to tell the amazing story of Martin.

The show will air from 8-9 AM and can be listened to for free, on the Iheartradio App.

Ivy was looked at as Bobby Martin’s father, as Martin acknowledged on social media and in his family circle.

Martin, one of the first players to actually play football without legs, was a defensive lineman and special teams player for the Colonel White Cougars in the mid 2000s. Martin became a inspiration to all after being one of the 1st people to compete on a varsity high school team with no legs.

Martin went to Colonel White HS during 2003-2006 and played for Coach Earl White at Colonel White and then Thurgood Marshall. Martin was born with Caudal regression syndrome, which is a condition that hinders capabilities with different limbs.

That never stopped Martin on and off the field however. That mentality is what got Martin to win the ESPY in 2006 for Best Male Athlete with a Disability.

Martin would be honored with the greats that year in Los Angeles, and the sky was the limit for him. He then would attend Central State University. Martin’s mentality was simple, but extremely effective, as you could see him wheeling around on his signature skateboard.

When asked about how it affected him and how he coped with Caudal syndrome as a young kid, he spoke. “My brothers taught me to be a man about it. You’re going to get people that laugh about you and don’t know you. Just explain yourself and go about your business.” Martin stated in an interview.

Martin collided with a van last week, and despite numerous efforts to resuscitate him, he passed away. Martin never made excuses; he just made a way. He lived fearlessly, and his energy and passion for football was evident. A guy who would make you understand what it really meant to be going through life without it being perfect.

You’d see him everywhere, and he was a real cool guy. Not to mention how you’d feel once you left his presence. He’d make you stop complaining about all the little stuff that was petty and had no real affect on your life. He would make you focus on being more positive, more dedicated to your craft, to enjoying your life. That’s how Bobby Martin lived, and we will salute one of the greatest athletes Dayton has ever seen.

Shepard Jr in Dads Steps, Gains National Attention; Shepards Set to Talk on Fox Sports Dayton

Derrick Shepard, one of the greatest offensive linemen to ever play in Dayton, has a son who seems to be on his way to upholding the Shepard legacy in the football world.

Derrick Shepard Jr, the young sophomore upstart who is coming into his own, has jumped on the national radar lately, as he has already recieved offers from multiple schools. And while it initially started as small schools, it has changed tremendously lately, as "Lil Shep" is starting to become big time.

After recieving offers from places such as Cincinnati, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Purdue, and others, Shepard Jr, has taken it in stride.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic that has ravaged the country and sports community, Shepard Jr. stock iust continues to rapidly rise.

As he will be a junior next year, the scouts, coaches, and top players will be salivating over the 6'4 310 pound young beast of a kid who will be anchoring the Alter line next year. With the expectations always state or bust for Alter, the pressure wont be any different for Lil Shep.

"Junior was getting double teamed all last year, so he already knows what he has to prepare for" Big Shep stated.

"Big Shep" is a coach for Alter as well, so it will be a interesting year to watch. He also played for Meadowdale,  which he starred, then to Georgia Tech before heading to the NFL to the Dolphins and the Patriots.

You can check out Derrick Shepard and his son tomorrow on the Dayton HS Sports show for Fox Sports Dayton / IHeartRadio  at 8-9AM  as they talk sports, college, Covid-19, what's next for the Shepard family,  and much more!

Its Official: Lacking hired as Dunbar Head Football Coach; Set to come on Fox Sports Dayton tomorrow

Its OFFICIAL: James Lacking Hired as new Dunbar Football Coach;
Will talk on Fox Sports Dayton Sunday

After negotiations broke down between Dayton Public Schools with former Dunbar football coach Corey Freed, the job was open for the taking.

After hearing some of the names that wanted the job, it was obvious that the Wolverines position was a hot spot. The likes of former NFL player Keith Byars, among others, in the running, gave DPS a lot to think about.

However, when it was all said and done, James Lacking, one of the top football coordinators in Southwest Ohio, was awarded the job.

Lacking played for the Dunbar Wolverines in the late 80's, early 90's, alonside the likes of #1 NFL Draft pick Dan "Big Daddy" Wilkinson, and that extremely talented team that went to the playoffs.

He then would attend Urbana and would play on the offensive and defensive line for the Knights.

After that Lacking would instantly jump into coaching, and  after 20 years of coaching, Lacking felt like his time was now.

"Im very grateful for the opportunity" Lacking stated, and has a message for the Dunbar community.
"We need the full support of the entire Dunbar nation, in order to turn this around." Lacking stated.

Despite having a few legends that were wanting the job?
Dayton Public Schools made the right decision giving Lacking the opportunity.

"Coach Lack" as he is known to be called in football circles, is a true blue Wolverine, who put in 24 years of  coaching throughout the city. He has always been a class act, and will resurrect some much needed energy and positivity into one of the high profile programs in all of Ohio.
